Standards Blitz is an intensified information campaign of the DTI-BPS that aims to promote standards, standardization and conformity assessment activities to students nationwide through fora, seminar workshop and visit to BPS Testing Center and BPS-accredited and BPS-recognized laboratories.
The BPS Standards Blitz Pilot Project was launched in July 2003 to strengthen the BPS information campaign on standards and standardization activities. Implemented by the BPS Promotions and Media Relations Division, with the strong support of the BPS Testing Center, BPS Training, and BPS Standards Development Division, the pilot project was able to make an impact to the target participants, from the start of the visit to persuade the principals and school administrators, to the visit of the students in the BPS Testing Center, and to the attendance in the Consumer Trade Fair at the SM Megamall Trade Hall.
The Standards Blitz Pilot Project created a consumer constituency among the youth as DTI’s partners in championing consumers. A total of 481 students (grades five and six and high school students of 13 schools) and 49 government employees (DTI and DepEd) participated in the project. They viewed the Standards Blitz Project as informative and useful in their lives.
The Standards Blitz Pilot Project was a resounding success because of the support of the management, the Philippine Product Safety and Quality Foundation Inc. (PPSQFI), other BPS ATs, and most importantly, of the creativity and enthusiasm of the Promotions and Media Relations staff. Immediately, the Director encouraged that the pilot project to be institutionalized and be implemented in the following years with a wider participation of other sectors concerned from other areas.
