PCs for Public Schools Project
PC's for Public Schools is a special project of the Department of Trade and Industry.
Vision
- Ensure a continuous stream of technical workers and develop the country’s I.T. human resources for the Information Economy.
- Provide school-based IT access as a catalyst for community development.
- Consolidate efforts of all sectors to modernize the delivery of public education.
Project Goals and Objectives
- Reduce computer backlog in public schools.
- Integrate computer education in public secondary school system.
- Raise the IT literacy level of teachers and students.
Funded by: The Counter Value Funds of the Government of Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid
Lead Implementing Agency: DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY
- Overall implementation systems and procedures, streamlining of project operations, secretariat functions, communications/promotions and advocacy, coordination activities, manpower, logistical support.
Project Partners:
Department of Education
- Prescribed and implemented computer education curriculum.
- Facilitated IT training for teachers.
- Monitored IT programs in schools and supervised computer laboratory utilization.
- Coordinated with division offices and schools on the various activities of the project.
Department of Science and Technology
- Developed and provided Science and Math Coursewares.
- Provided assistance to IT training for teachers.
Department of Finance
- Facilitated the approval of funds.
Intel Philippines
- The teachers of PCPS recipient schools were included in their “Intel Teach to the Future program”, which provides a 10-day, 10 module IT training program at no cost to the government.
Microsoft Philippines
- Provided software assistance package in a form of substantial discounts for software purchase for the project.
ConnectEd.ph
- A consortium of private IT companies, corporate foundations, and industry associations founded to support the project. It aims to provide interconnectivity to selected PCPS schools and extend additional training programs.
Local/Host Communities (LGUs, PTCAs, Civic Organizations in the community, etc.)
- Generated effective mechanism to ensure community support and equity to the project to sustain the IT program and continuous operation of computer laboratory in schools.
