The OPR coordinates and formulates general trade and industry policies for the Department. It also conducts research on trade and industry issues for policy analysis and formulation.  

As such, the OPR provides technical support to top management in the area of economic research; coordinates and prepares the official position of the Department on various policy issues and legislative proposals; and coordinates with other government agencies and the private sector to ensure consistency in policies.
