E-Commerce Office
The E-Commerce Office (ECO) was institutionalized in 06 March 2009 through Department Order (DO) No. 09-16 to fill in the need for a special unit in DTI that will focus and work full-time on e-commerce. This is in line with Section 29 of Republic Act (RA) No. 8792 or the Electronic Commerce of 2000, which gives the DTI the authority to direct and supervise the promotion and development of electronic commerce in the country with relevant agencies.ECO's major functions are:
- To formulate/coordinate the formulation of policies and guidelines in support of e-commerce;
- To formulate and implement plans and programs for further development and implementation of e-commerce in the country, in coordination with other DTI agencies, other government agencies, the private sector and other stakeholders;
- To monitor and evaluate the implementation of e-commerce policies, plans, and programs; and
- To actively participate in local and international organizations related to e-commerce whenever necessary.
The ECO serves as Secretariat of the DTI E-Commerce Team (created by virtue of DO No. 12, Series of 2006 and reconstituted through DO No. 09-21, Series of 2009) and other inter-agency bodies on e-commerce.
