What is Green Economic Development?

GED relates to a development that foremost applies strategies that consider the reduction of carbon emission and pollution, reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.

The GED program builds upon the four-year-long cooperation between DTI-ROG and the GIZ ProGED Project. The program aims to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs by helping them adopt climate-smart, environmental-friendly, and inclusive strategies and measures by aligning with the green value chain approach to identify hotspots for greening.

What is Greening?

Greening refers to the use of processes, business practices, and technologies to improve the efficiency in the use of power, water and resources, reduce adverse impacts on the environment, improve solid and wastewater management, reduce water and air pollution, reduce climate-related risks, and produce green products and services.

What are the services offered by DTI as part of this advocacy?

The DTI may offer the following:

  • Conduct of GED learning and sensitization events
  • Business advisory on GED
  • Conduct matchmaking and green financing events with green business development services, green technology suppliers, and green financing companies
What are the seven greening hotspots?

MSMEs can substantially help mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions which may start from the following greening hotspots:

  • Natural Resource Management
  • Energy Efficiency Management
  • Waste Management
  • Waste Water Management
  • Solid Waste Management
  • Transport Management
  • Raw Materials Management
