Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) targets the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal Inc. (NVAT) to be the first internationally-compliant digital-payment-ready agri-terminal in the Philippines.

Following a Quick Response code (QR code) onboarding session in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, DTI Region 2 Provincial Director Atty. Michael Paggabao reported that the said the program gathered 100 participants including cooperatives, truckers, traders, farmers, and disposers. QRPh is the code standard of the Philippines fashioned after the Europay-Mastercard-VISA (EMV) global benchmark for secure financial transactions. The onboarding session was the first step in food logistics and driving digital transformation in the province.

As part of the DTI’s three-year Food Logistics Action Plan, the initiative seeks to improve efficiency and transparency in agricultural supply chains by introducing digital payment solutions at NVAT, automating essential processes such as parking and lease payments.

A significant pre-activity was the accreditation of NVAT with Maya as a Merchant Account holder, enabling seamless cashless transactions and enhancing payment accessibility for all stakeholders.

In his message, Provincial Director Paggabao highlighted the various benefits of digital transformation in terms of ease of doing business. He then reiterated the agency’s readiness to support the organization’s ways forward.

Participants also attended a financial literacy lecture presented by Maria Elena A. Madriaga, a representative from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. She discussed the role of financial institutions and provided insights on how to identify potential scams and assess other risks related to individual accounts.

Representatives from Maya, GCash, Landbank, and Western Union also provided brief overviews of their services, with a focus on promoting cashless payments. ♦
