Tuguegarao City, Philippines—On November 26, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) held a Consumer Welfare Month Awarding Ceremony at the Negosyo Center Conference Hall, Carig Sur. This event recognized various organizations for their invaluable contributions to advancing consumer welfare in the region.
DTI Regional Director for Cagayan Ma. Sofia Narag expressed her gratitude to all the participants for their active involvement in the Consumer Welfare Month celebration. She emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to effectively reach and empower consumers throughout the Cagayan Valley region.
As part of the month’s activities, the ceremony also acknowledged schools that participated in the 2024 Regional Consumer Cup Quiz Bee Championship. The winners were: University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao, Quirino General High School, Saint Mary’s University, San Isidro Integrated School, Solano High School, Dadda National High School, Victoria High School, Manaring Integrated School, Lamo National High School, and Cauayan City Stand Alone High School.
The event also commended several outstanding partner organizations. In the Private Organization Category, the awardees were: JCI Cauayan Bamboo (1st Place), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Southern Isabela (2nd Place), Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao (3rd Place), Agrizkaya Cooperative Federation, JCI Tuguegarao Ybanag, and Tagapagligtas Riders, Inc. Philippines.
In the Consumer Organization Category, the following organizations were lauded: Timpuyog iti Babbalasang idi Kalman (1st Place); Konsyumer Assistance, Protection, and Welfare Association (2nd Place); and Masisit-Dacal Livelihood Cooperative (3rd Place).
Also, the Consumer Club of the Cauayan City Stand-Alone Senior High School received a certificate of enlistment as a DTI Region 2-recognized consumer organization.
After the awarding ceremonies, Mr. Rashid S. Bautista, DTI Region 2 Continuing Professional Development’s Trade-Industry Development Specialist, conducted a Consumer Education Information (CEI) session. The session focused on the basic consumer rights and responsibilities, and the importance of product standards. This reinforced the Consumer Welfare Month’s theme: “Be Smart: Assert your Consumer Rights!”
In closing, Acting Assistant Regional Director Henry O. Conel, Jr. pledged for continued consumer advocacy, while emphasizing the DTI’s ongoing support for consumer-related activities. ♦
