Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 10 reminds consumers to buy Christmas lights certified by the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) to ensure a bright and festive yet safe Christmas celebration.

With less than six weeks to go before Christmas, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 10 reminds consumers to buy Christmas lights certified by the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) to ensure a bright and festive yet safe Christmas celebration.

The public is urged to look for the Philippine Standard (PS) mark or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker in the packaging of the Christmas lights.

The PS and ICC certificates are issued to manufactures and importers of mandatory products after they have undergone checking and inspection on their compliance for product standards. This gives assurance to consumers that what they purchase are certified quality and safe products.

Buying and using of uncertified products such as Christmas lights can pose hazards as substandard lights are prone to fire.

The full list of certified Christmas lights manufacturers can be viewed at the DTI BPS website: www.bps.dti.gov.ph. Customers can also verify the authenticity of ICC stickers using the ICC Verification System mobile application. The app can be downloaded for free on Google Playstore. ♦
