The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 recently recognized the region’s most competitive and most improved Local Government Units (LGUs) that landed in the Top 30 Most Improved and Most Competitive LGUs at the National Level in the 2023 Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index awarding ceremonies held at the Isabela Convention Center (ICON), Barangay San Fermin, Cauayan City, Isabela, on 7 December 2023.
ARD Winston Singun, who opened the ceremonies on behalf of RD Leah Pulido Ocampo, expressed his appreciation to all the LGUs present for their deep commitment and for striving to improve the competitiveness of their respective cities and municipalities.
In her message, DTI Regional Operations Group (ROG) Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona said, the country can never have a strong, innovative, and competitive Philippines without a strong and competitive local government unit.
She also said that LGUs must embody the pillars of local competitiveness, namely economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation. Enhancing the competitiveness of the LGUs significantly contributes to economic prosperity by providing an enabling environment for all.
Meanwhile, Hon. Christopher V.P. De Venecia, Chairman of the Special Committee on Creative Industry, highlighted the significant role of the awardees in fostering a vibrant and creative community and in providing support for the promotion and development of the Philippine Creative Industries as a key economic driver.
