The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 assisted three Information and Communications Technology (ICT) councils during the Convergence of Luzon ICT Champions Conference and Exhibitions (ClickConEx) 2022 held last 28 October 2022, at the Crown Royale Hotel, Balanga City, Bataan.
The region’s delegation is composed of two representatives from the Cauayan City ICT Council together with the regional ICT industry focal person who joined the activity in person in Bataan, while two representatives from the Tuguegarao City ICT Council, one representative from the Santiago City ICT Council, and the provincial ICT industry focal persons from the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino joined virtually.
The Luzon-wide convergence and exhibitions have capacitated and supplemented the ICT council representatives’ knowledge of the current status of the ICT industry in the country, as well as the digitalization efforts of the government to improve the ease of doing business with its services.
Meanwhile, DICT Secretary Ivan John E. Uy, in his keynote speech, underscored the significant growth of ICT in the Philippines, particularly the Information Technology-Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industries, which generated $32 billion in revenue and created 1.4 million jobs in 2021. The state’s ICT chief also emphasized the role of the DICT in nourishing start-up communities and digitally enabling MSMEs for a more inclusive and innovative Philippines.
A series of panel talks from various ICT experts and policymakers have also taken place during the activity, which covered topics such as, “Inclusive Access to Innovation and Sustainability,” “Aligning Digital Skills and Scale Talent Development,” “Achieving Inclusive Growth Through Digital Transformation,” and “Digital Cities Caravan.”
Furthermore, the event also served as a benchmarking activity for DTI-R2’s regional and provincial ICT industry focal persons in preparation for the organization of the Regional ICT Industry Council and the Regional ICT Conference.
The ClickConEx is an annual event organized by the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) that aims to support and sustain the development of the ICT industry in Luzon through partnerships and collaborations among ICT councils, regional development councils (RDCs), regional line agencies (RLAs), and the academe. The event also promotes Luzon as an investment area for ICT-enabled jobs. #
