Santiago City, Isabela — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 Consumer Protection Division, in collaboration with the Isabela Provincial Office and the Local Government Unit of Santiago City, successfully hosted the first Mobile Product Standards Showcase cum Diskwento Caravan from May 23-25, 2024, at the City Hall Grounds, San Andres, Santiago City, Isabela.
The Mobile Product Standards Showcase, an initiative by DTI Region 2, aimed to educate consumers on identifying safe, high-quality, and efficient products that meet mandatory certification standards.
Simultaneously, the Diskwento Caravan, a joint effort by DTI and manufacturers and distributors of essential goods, provided consumers with reasonably priced, high-quality products. The term “diskwento” signifies discounted prices, offering consumers greater savings and increased disposable income.
The combination of these two activities sought to enhance consumer awareness of product standards while ensuring they received the best value for their money. This unique program aligns with the vision of former Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo (now CITEM Executive Director), who advocated pairing the Diskwento Caravan with product standards education.
The event generated a total of ₱285,098.00 in sales from the 11 exhibitors, including 1st Megasaver, Addessa Corporation, Kservico, Centro Department Store, Unisun Shopping Mall Branch 2, B.H. Roque Integrated Farm, 7th Cup Bread and Pastries, Janijin Food Products, Melody’s Delicious Spread, 3M’s Pastries Corner, and Jackiecris Corporation.
A raffle on the event’s final day rewarded 13 lucky consumers who purchased products from the Diskwento Caravan exhibitors. Prizes included certified household items such as electric flat irons, electric kettles, rice cookers, electric stand fans, and a washing machine.
DTI Region 2 remains committed to developing innovative programs that enhance consumer awareness and protect against uncertified products and services. ♦
