Continuing its mission to enhance food safety and elevate the local economy, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office, led by Provincial Director Atty. Michael B. Paggabao rolled out the awarding of food safety kits under Project SAFE (Strengthening Advocacy on Food safety Enhancement by providing personal protective equipment to micro and small enterprises) in the municipalities of Bayombong, Solano, Bagabag, and Villaverde on 22-23 July 2024.
The initiative is part of the broader efforts of the agency to elevate food safety standards, enhance the competitiveness of local enterprises, and provide support to the value-adding industries of the province.
Value-adding industries are sectors that enhance the value of raw materials through processing, manufacturing, or other forms of transformation to produce higher-value products. These industries play a crucial role in economic development by creating more sophisticated products, generating employment, and increasing the overall economic output.
Through the said project which was implemented in collaboration with the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC), the agency distributed 310 PPE kits including coverall suits, gloves, masks, and rubberized and heavy-duty aprons, among others.
These were awarded to the market vendors of Bagabag and Villaverde, as well as to the processors/beneficiaries of the different Shared Service Facility (SSF) projects, specifically the Quirino Rural Improvement Club and the Federation of Timpuyog Iti Babbaro Ken Babbalasang Idi Kalman Bagabag (FTIBBIKB) Retailers Inc. in Bagabag; Saint Mary’s University, the NV Cacao Growers Association Inc., Nueva Vizcaya State University, and Rabbit Meat Processing Facility in Bayombong; Samahang Magsasaka ng Wacal Inc. and Bangaan Rural Workers Association in Solano, and the Teampuyog Women’s Association of Villaverde.
PD Paggabao underscored that Project SAFE extends beyond providing PPEs. It’s about fostering a culture of safety and responsibility while actively supporting value-adding industries. This initiative reflects DTI’s commitment to enhancing product quality and strengthening local businesses to sustain Nueva Vizcaya’s economic performance as one of the top-fastest growing provinces in the country.
Villaverde Vice Mayor Marlon John Acosta emphasized the importance of food safety and sustainable business practices in his message to the participants.
Aside from the awarding activity, the team also conducted advocacy sessions on the Price Act and Price Tag Law.
Also with PD Paggabao were CTIDS Lenore Lee S. Lopez, CTIDS Rowena F. Mayangat, TIDS Ronald Tuddao, SBC Jannyn Lafeguera, Technical Assistant Arjay Mar Novida, Technical Assistant Jan Christopher Decoro, JBC Kristine Dian Calimag, and JBC Precious Mae Marzan.
