

San Pablo, Laguna and Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Quirino in collaboration with the Barista and Coffee Academy of Asia (BCAA), recently conducted a three-part session Coffee Study Tour on June 18, 2024, held at San Pablo City, Laguna, and Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila respectively. Ms. Angela Raymond Ferreria-Tan, Managing Partner of BCAA, alongside other experts from the BCAA, served as the resource person during the activity.
The first stop was at the Cruz Farm – Bukid ni Juan in San Pablo City, Laguna, facilitated by Mr. Chester Nimer, Instructor of BCAA. During the visit, the team witnessed the BCAA’s technologies and methods in coffee farming which have undergone thorough research and development.
After that, the team proceeded to Curve Coffee Roastery in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila, where they delved into the intricacies of coffee roasting techniques through the guidance of Mr. Angelo Tangle of BCAA.
The tour concluded at the BCAA Campus in Tunasan, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila, under the guidance of Mr. Paul Vincent Asuncion of BCAA, where attendees immersed themselves into BCAA’s top-notch coffee cupping practices.
The activity was initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry R2 Quirino’s Provincial SSF Coordinator, Ms. Joyce Marie Reyno.
The activity was attended by representatives from the Industry Development Division of DTI R2, including Regional Coffee Industry Focal Rosemarie N. Batang; Provincial Government of Quirino (PGQ) Executive Assistant Elmor Villaruel and Mr. Jose S. Candelario (from Provincial Tourism Office); Executive Assistant Emogene Senense and Mr. Emmanuel Mostajo (from Q-Life Upland System); Community Affairs Officer Analyn K. Abluyan (from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist); Assistant Professor Jonathan Tariga and TESDA Coordinator Bernard Milla (from Quirino State University); and Diffun Saranay and Development Cooperative’s (DISADECO) Coffee Department Head, Michael Tacadena.
The coffee study tour is undertaken to explore the innovative technologies and industry-leading practices employed by the BCAA. These are valuable inputs in the setting up and operationalization of the Coffee Cupping Laboratory and Coffee Shop Center in the province under Shared Serviced Facilities (SSF) Projects. It reinforced DTI’s steadfast commitment to advancing excellence and innovation in industry development. ♦
