Calamba City — The Strengthening the Transition of Vulnerable Communities Affected by the South Commuter Railway Project (STVC South) together with the City of Calamba Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Department (CLDD) and the Laguna Provincial Office of the Department of Trade and Industry conducted a seminar entitled “Basic Entrepreneurial Seminar and Negosyo 101 Training” at the CLDD Training Center, Mercado de Calamba, Brgy. 5, Calamba City, Laguna, on May 28, 2024.

The event was attended by individuals within the community in the City of Calamba, Laguna, as well as the personnel from STVC and CLDD. This seminar aimed to empower individuals within the community, particularly those affected by the ongoing railway project, with essential knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship for business start-up and to enhance their competitiveness in the market.

Ms. Angelica Fae Rodriguez, Cooperatives Development Specialist II, presided the said activity, followed by Ms. Phoebe Cervantes, Division Chief Product Development and Marketing, for the invocation and warm welcome. Following the opening remarks, Ms. Bella Villarin of STVC South expressed her gratitude for attending the seminar, aiming to assist each individual in gaining knowledge to start or establish their own business. Rodriguez formally introduced the resource speakers of this seminar.

The first speaker was Ms. Roxanne Fatima Garcia, Business Counsellor assigned in Biñan City, who discussed the crucial aspects of setting up a business. Her presentation focused on the qualities and skills necessary for entrepreneurs when starting and managing a business. Additionally, Garcia emphasized the importance and advantages of registering a business.

The next speakers were Ms. Dianne Piamonte and Ms. Marian Calongcalong, Business Counsellors assigned in Alaminos and Cabuyao City, respectively, delivered an enlightening session dedicated to educating participants about consumer rights and responsibilities.

Toward the end of the event, the distribution of certificates of appreciation was presented to acknowledge and thank the participants and resource speakers.

Overall, this seminar was attended a total number 226 of participants with the knowledge and skills needed to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys and improve their economic prospects. ♦
