Victoria, Laguna – The Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna Provincial Office (DTI-Laguna) through its One Town, One Product Next Generation (OTOP Next Gen) Program together with the Department of Science and Technology – Region 4A (DOST-4A) provide a series of Food Compliance Seminar.
OTOP Next Gen Program is a priority stimulus program for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as the government’s customized intervention to drive local and economic growth. Through this program, an ecosystem of interventions and assistance is provided to MSMEs to level up their products and services in terms of design, quality, and volume. OTOP Next Gen also enables localities and communities to determine, develop, support, and promote culturally rooted products or services which they can be best known for.
The said seminar series was conducted last April and May 2024 at DTI-Laguna Provincial Office in Victoria, Laguna. Experts from DOST-4A served as the resource persons, namely, Engr. Jean Paulene Castillo and Mr. Jherome Lusterio for the Seminar on Food Safety and Quality Management and Current Good Manufacturing Practices in the New Normal, Ms. Ma. Lorelie Dorado for the Seminar on Product and Process Standardization, and Ms. Amiel Lacdan for the Workshop and One-on-One Consultancy on Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures. The sessions were attended by the Laguna MSMEs engaged in food manufacturing.

In each session, DTI-Laguna and DOST-4A facilitated discussion, one-on-one consultation, group activities, and open forum. The resource speakers were able to emphasize the importance of setting a high standard for food quality and safety, as well as complying to the regulations set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Each factor affecting food safety and quality was discussed and they were given guidelines to efficiently manage their production and process.
This activity aims to strengthen the knowledge of these Laguna food manufacturers about the Mandatory Labeling Requirements of FDA. It also became an avenue for the MSMEs to express their needs and concerns in terms of compliances and regulations.
Through this activity, the participants were able to have a basic understanding on the documentary requirements to secure and comply with the certifications of the FDA. This information will be helpful in standardizing their business in preparation for FDA License to Operate (LTO) application. They were also inspired to implement the changes they need to do in order to comply with the regulatory requirements.
At the end of every seminar, the participants were awarded with certificates of participation which they can use as attachments for their application for FDA-LTO (CPMorales, DTI-Laguna). ♦
