The Kamp Kawayan project, a collaborative initiative between Aitech IDEA FabLab, the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Rizal, continues to make significant strides in its mission to promote sustainable building practices using bamboo.
To equip participants with the essential skills for designing and visualizing bamboo structures effectively, the project also included a 13-week intensive “Kamp Kawayan: BIM Training” program. The training, which began at AiTech’s IDEA FabLab, is conducted by Mr. Raffy John Jomenez, a BIM practitioner from UAP. The program includes 15 chosen participants from various backgrounds, including students and faculty of AiTech, as well as Mr. Paolo B. Garrovillas, SSF Support Staff of DTI Rizal. This training is a significant step for AiTech, as it seeks to maximize the use of its established BIM workstation at their IDEA FabLab, a Shared Service Facility (SSF) granted to them by DTI.

As part of the project, 34 students from Aitech participated in the Barkadahan Student Internship Program with UAP. During this internship, the students were tasked with designing and constructing five scale models (prototypes) that will be built in real life on the university campus. These prototypes include a Greenhouse Garden, a Pavilion or Art Installation, an Emergency Shelter, a Multi-Purpose Shed, and two Expo Booths.
To support the construction of these scale models, DTI Rizal has generously sponsored 40 treated bamboo poles, which have already been delivered to Aitech. These high-quality materials will play a vital role in ensuring the structural integrity and durability of the prototypes. ♦
