
Alaminos, Laguna — SMERA (Small and Medium Enterprises Roving Academy) is one of the Department of Trade and Industry’s ongoing education initiatives created to help entrepreneurs grow. This program aids these micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in learning how to improve their competitiveness in both domestic and foreign markets.
The Laguna Provincial Office of DTI in collaboration with the Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Department (CLDD) of the City Government of Calamba conducted a SMERA on Material Management and Inventory Control last February 23, 2024, at the Training Center of CLDD located in Mercado De Calamba, Barangay 5, City of Calamba, Laguna. This session was a component of a series of capacity development program offered by CLDD to its existing and potential MSMEs.
The seminar commenced with an opening remark from the head of CLDD, emphasizing the importance of effective material management and inventory control in today’s competitive market. DTI Laguna Negosyo Center Business Counselor Mr. Vencer Vladimir Hurtada presented comprehensive modules covering topics such as inventory accuracy, order management, supply chain logistics, and the application of technology in inventory management. An innovative ice breaker activity was conducted by Mr. Lawrence Flores, Negosyo Center Business Counselor assigned in Pagsanjan to foster an environment of camaraderie and open dialogue among attendees. This activity was instrumental in setting a positive tone for the event, encouraging active participation and networking. Interactive sessions, including Q&A and group discussions, facilitated engaging exchanges between the speakers and participants, allowing for personalized advice and sharing of experiences.


The seminar was a resounding success, achieving its objective of empowering local businesses through enhanced understanding and practices in inventory management and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from a total of twenty-three (23) potential and existing MSMEs from different barangays of Calamba city, Laguna, who valued the practical insights and expertise shared by the speakers. The ice breaker activity was particularly appreciated for breaking down barriers and encouraging a more engaging and interactive learning experience. Attendees also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to directly interact with Calamba City Mayor Hon. Ross Rizal and for his commitment to supporting local enterprises. ♦
