Makati City, Philippines—On 31 March, the Bureau of Competitive Development (BCD) and Creative Industries Development Office (CIDO) culminated their Women’s Month celebration with a day dedicated to empowerment, creativity, and solidarity. This event highlighted the role of women in the creative industries, underscoring the importance of support, collaboration, and inclusivity, aligned with the theme, Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas”.

CIDO Officer-in-Charge and BCD Director Lilian G. Salonga opened the program with a powerful message underscoring the significance of the Magna Carta of Women. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving gender equality and empowering women.

In her message of support, CIG Supervising Head and Assistant Secretary Nylah Rizza D. Bautista emphasized the strength of community among women.

“I believe that when women support fellow women, the possibilities are endless. So as queens, we lift each other, and we fix each other’s crowns. And in DTI, we support equality. That’s why we stress the value of community and support for one another. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and instead of finding the loophole in each other, why not support? Why not be kind? Why not offer help when that person isn’t even asking for one? We have to be sensitive in whatever we do because we see each other every day. This is like our second family,” said Asec. Bautista.

Further enriching the celebration, Assistant Secretary Leonila T. Baluyut shared her insights on the invaluable contributions of women in the creative industries. She highlighted the importance of prioritizing support for women from indigenous and marginalized groups, ensuring that every woman, regardless of background, has opportunities to thrive.

“Creativity knows no boundaries, and women—especially those from underserved communities—should be given the platform and resources to showcase their talents. Our commitment remains firm in fostering an inclusive creative economy where all women can succeed,” said Asec. Baluyut.

A highlight of the event was an engaging interview with the remarkable women of CIDO, who continue to drive change by demonstrating that women can achieve more and lead teams with confidence and excellence.

Beyond the speeches, the celebration embraced art and self-expression through face painting, hair tinsel, and makeup sessions, allowing women to explore their confidence and creativity. Additionally, in a show of camaraderie and unity, CIDO staff collaborated on an art activity, placing their thumbprints on an illustration of a woman, symbolizing collective support and empowerment.

As part of CIDO’s ongoing wellness initiatives, the Marketing and Promotion Division (MPD) hosted a #ThankfulTuesday session earlier in the month. During this activity, staff members exchanged sticky notes filled with messages of gratitude and encouragement. These notes were distributed during the culminating activity, serving as a source of inspiration and a reminder of the strong support from their colleagues in the workplace.
