The Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Competitive Development (DTI-BCD) recently concluded the Prefer Pinoy Roadshow in October 2024 promoting the Domestic Bidders’ (DoBid) Certificate of Preference Program with a series of information sessions that took place in six key locations—Baguio City, Clark Freeport Zone, Metro Manila, Davao City, Cebu City, and Tagaytay City.
The Prefer Pinoy Roadshow gathered stakeholders from the local manufacturing industry, government procuring entities, and Bids and Awards Committees (BAC), featuring comprehensive sessions led by the DoBid Program team. The discussions covered the procedures for securing a DoBid Certificate; the advantages of participating in government procurement as domestic bidders, most especially in the light of recently enacted laws, i.e. RA 11891 (Tatak Pinoy Act) and its IRR, as well as RA 12009 (New Government Procurement Act); and the broader economic benefits of prioritizing locally-produced products goods and services in public procurement.
A highlight of the roadshow was the inspiring testimonials from current DoBid certificate holders, i.e. Armscor Global Defense Inc., AholdtechPH Corp., Republic Cement & Building Materials Inc., and Zhobless Corp., who shared their stories and insights on how the program has positively impacted their businesses and helped them compete in government bidding. Their experiences underscored the value of the program in leveling the playing field for local manufacturers.
The Prefer Pinoy Roadshow would not have been possible without the cooperation active participation and support of DTI’s regional and provincial offices, which played a crucial role in assisting the DTI-BCD to ensure the participation of local stakeholders both from the government and the private sectors. The roadshow served as both an information drive and a networking platform, encouraging collaborations and providing valuable knowledge to participants.
With a significant turnout of local manufacturers, procurement officers, and industry experts, DTI expressed optimism that the Prefer Pinoy Roadshow would lead to greater awareness and participation in the DoBid Program, further empowering local businesses to thrive in the government procurement landscape. The agency remains committed to initiatives that promote local industries and strengthen the nation’s economic resilience.
