
Hong Kong – The Department of Trade and Industry took the Philippines’ vibrant and diverse culinary offerings center stage at the HKTDC Food Expo Pro, held from August 15 to 17, 2024, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Hong Kong (PTIC-HK) and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the country’s participation showcased the finest and most flavorful Philippine food products, generating an impressive USD 3.8 million in sales.
PTIC-HK Vice Consul Commercial and Commercial Attaché Atty. Roberto B. Mabalot, Jr. remarked, “The Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Hong Kong (PTIC-HK) and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) are pleased to report that the unique flavors and quality of Philippine food and cuisine have been enthusiastically embraced by the Hong Kong market. This is evident from the strong leads and inquiries generated from overseas buyers, resulting in a total sales performance valued at USD 3,800,242.88.”
“We are excited to apply the learnings from this successful Philippine participation in future food-related events,” Mabalot added.
The Philippine pavilion was a feast for the senses, featuring an array of fresh fruits including Durian, cavendish banana, and pineapple and, seafood products across all categories such as mangrove crabs, fresh frozen cuttlefish, and dried seaweed, among others.
The Philippines was represented by seven food companies namely: Kang Kong King; Eng Seng Food Products; LA Carlota Food Enterprise; Siargao’s Bounty Seafoods Corp.; Raspina Tropical Fruits Inc.; Local Government of Buguey; Hueza Bakery.
PTIC-HK arranged a comprehensive program to enhance the exhibitors’ experience and foster business opportunities. B2B meetings facilitated valuable connections, while an information session with a Hong Kong-based e-commerce platform provided insights into the digital landscape. Additionally, a site visit to a local food technology company allowed exhibitors to explore cutting-edge technologies applicable to their enterprises.
Furthermore, PTIC-HK, in collaboration with HKDTC, organized the “Sourcing Opportunities in the Philippines” seminar, where trade relations between the Philippines and Hong Kong, as well as the latest trends in the food industry, were discussed.
As the Philippines continues to captivate global palates with its rich culinary heritage, events like the HKTDC Food Expo Pro serve as a platform to showcase the country’s diverse and flavorful offerings, fostering international trade and strengthening economic ties.
