DTI- Camiguin Provincial Office conducted Information and Education Campaign to selected Grade 8 & 9 students in four schools in the municipality of Mambajao, namely: Tupsan National High School, Mambajao National High School, Kuguita Integrated School and Mambajao National High School. It is a half day activity and was conducted last February 21-22, 2018.

The focus of the information and education campaign is to inform consumers at an early age of their rights so that consumer laws and regulations gets implemented accordingly.

The forum is also timely for students to prepare on one of the highlights of the consumer month celebration observed every October, that is the Consumer Quiz for high School students. Consumer month celebration reminds us how important consumers and their vulnerabilities in the market place.

The activity was spearheaded by the Consumer Protection Division (CPD) of DTI to emphasize on the importance of consumer protection and consumer empowerment among the youth. As consumers, we have the right to basic and prime commodities at affordable prices and of good quality, to be protected against the marketing of goods or the provision of services that are hazardous to health and life, to be protected against dishonest or misleading advertising or labeling, and to be compensated for misrepresentation, shoddy goods or unsatisfactory services, among others.♦

In preparation of the annual religious and tourism event which is the Panaad 2018 in Camiguin during the Holy Week on March 26-30, 2018, a meeting was held last February 06, 2018 at the Camiguin Convention Center for the interagency sharing of responsibilities spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Camiguin. This meeting was presided by Provincial Governor Maria Luisa D. Romualdo and attended by all municipal mayors, technical staff and department heads.

DTI-Camiguin is one of the agencies tasked to technically assist the Provincial Government of Camiguin in managing the Souvenir Shops and traders who will display and will sell their products during the event at the Walkway to the Old Volcano located in Bonbon, Catarman, Camiguin.

The goal of this inter-agency meeting is to conduct a peaceful and an orderly conduct of the Panaad 2018, especially at the height of the incoming influx of tourists and guests during the Holy Week celebration.♦

With the destruction that Marawi City is experiencing, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are now asking on how they can recover from the devastation brought about by the war or how they can regain and begin their lives again.

The Task Force Bangon Marawi Sub-Committee on Business and Livelihood (TFBM-SCBL) headed by the Department of Trade and Industry continuously creates initiatives to allow the effective rehabilitation of the people of Marawi. Member-agencies are TESDA, DOLE, DSWD, DA, DAR, DENR, DOST, OPAPP and other international and local national organizations (INGOs/NGOs) and civil society organization (CSOs).

The “TF Bangon Marawi” programs initiated by the various government agencies are interventions in response to the clamor of the IDPs in helping them rebuild Marawi City and alleviate the lives of the affected families, not only in Marawi City but also in nearby municipalities.

Interventions include livelihood programs like conduct of trainings: skills training by TESDA and entrepreneurial trainings by DTI; provision of starter kits (DTI/TESDA); other livelihood projects from above-named agencies and financing assistance from SB Corporation.

The DTI Negosyo Seminar para sa Marawi is one of the entrepreneurial trainings that will help the IDPs, businessmen or not:
1. To develop the correct mindset and the livelihood opportunities they can engage in; to identify related interventions such as marketing and product development for IDPs businesses;
2. To further improve the recovery of IDPs with the delivery of seminar and information regarding proposed loan programs/grants.

ILIGAN – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) awarded 1,500 livelihood packages as well as 0%-interest microfinance loans to the internally displaced people (IDP) of the Marawi siege during the DTI Negosyo Seminar Para sa Marawi on 30 January 2018.

“We want to assure the IDPs that President Duterte’s administration continues to provide more business and livelihood opportunities through the DTI Negosyo Seminars being given to help them recover soon,” said DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez.

There were 1,500 participants and beneficiaries who attended the Negosyo Seminar. One of them was Mr. Alikman Nata, who intends to share the benefits of the livelihood package to his group, the Lanao Muslim Youth Association.

As the head of Bangon Marawi’s Subcommittee in Business and Livelihood, DTI had earlier distributed 588 livelihood packages and conducted Negosyo trainings to 1,963 IDPs as of December 2017. There were also 240 beneficiaries who were linked to financial institutions.

The Department also allocated Php 50 million this year to fund the Shared Service Facilities (SSF), providing Maranao entrepreneurs with facilities and knowledge that match their business needs. This is apart from the budget provision to support other Bangon Marawi programs in providing mobile rice mills, tricycles, vehicles, and the construction of public markets.

DTI flew in different business experts to teach business preparedness, opportunities spotting, product development and marketing, financial literacy, and franchising.

The beneficiaries were likewise briefed on the microfinancing loan programs of the government through the Small Business Corporation (SB Corp.), which developed a special 0%-interest microloan program for Marawi IDPs. This program has a grace period to help in the quick recovery of the IDPs. It started last December 2017 and has benefitted a total of 229 borrowers.

During the acceptance and distribution of transitory shelter units by Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in Brgy. Sagonsongan, Marawi City, Sec. Lopez turned over the 0%-interest microfinance loan from SB Corp. to 150 beneficiaries, where 95 of them are public market vendors. The beneficiaries were represented by Ms. Rocaya Macabantog, Mr. Abbas Inidal, Mr. Allan Carimbaran, Mr. Acadon Macapundag, and Mr. Cosain Solaiman.

The 0%-interest microfinance loan program for the 150 beneficiaries amounted to Php 2.19 million. This is a part of the Php 100 million-fund under the Pondo sa Pagbabago at Pag-asenso (P3) loans allocated for Marawi entrepreneurs by SB Corp, an attached agency of DTI.♦

Negosyo Seminar Iligan

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Region 10 is, once again, calling all business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to renew or to register their business names early on, most preferably weeks before January 20 - the deadline set by the local government units (LGU) for the renewal of business permits.

Business registrants only have to spend around fifteen to thirty minutes to have teir business names registered or renewed. The renewal and registration of business name through DTI is one of the requirements before a business registrant can acquire a Mayor’s permit from the LGU.

First-time applicants only need three requirements: (1) Duly-accomplished business name application form; (2) 1 valid national government-issued ID with the applicant’s name, photo and signature; (3) Registration fee. Applicable fees depend upon the scope of the business. If the business is only at the barangay level, the registrant only need to pay Php 200; for City level, Php 500; for Regional level, Php 1,000 and Php 2,000 for businesses which extends up to the national level.

For individuals who are tasked to file a business name in behalf of the business owner, they need to bring an authorization letter with the owner’s signature, their personal and the owner’s government-issued IDs, duly-accomplished form and registration fee.

Business owners who need to modify some details in their business registration need to submit an affidavit of waiver and to surrender their original business name certificate. Meanwhile, those who wish to cancel or change the scope of their business will have to surrender their original business name certificate and to submit an affidavit of cancellation.

For applicants residing in Cagayan de Oro, they may file their business name registration or renewal at DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Office Negosyo Center located at the Ground Floor of State Investment Trust Incorporated along Tiano-Hayes Street in Cagayan de Oro City or at DTI Region 10 Negosyo Center located at Corrales-Luna Streets, Cagayan de Oro City.♦
