PTIC-Madrid Promotes PH Trade, Boosts Spain-SEA Connectivity at Algeciras Port Workshop 

Madrid, Spain – The Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Madrid (PTIC-Madrid), the overseas trade and investment promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), represented the Philippines in the international workshop, “The Port of Algeciras: Key to Connectivity with Southeast Asian Countries” on 27 March 2025, to explore new business opportunities in Southeast Asia while highlighting the port’s strategic position as a global logistics hub and its role in facilitating trade with Asia. 

The event, held at the historical Palacio de Santoña, Madrid Chamber of Commerce’s headquarters, gathered over 60 representatives from various business groups and Spanish companies. 
Industry experts discussed key growth opportunities and challenges for companies looking to expand into Asian markets. The Embassy and trade office representatives from the Philippines, Indonesia, and other businesses operating in the region shared valuable insights to the participants during the workshop. 

PTIC-Madrid Commercial Counselor Althea Karen Antonio served as a speaker, presenting the Philippines’ economic performance, trade and investment opportunities, as well as providing an update on the status of the Philippines-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. Commercial Counsellor Antonio emphasized the potential benefits of closer economic ties between Spain and the Philippines and discussed key sectors for investment in the Philippines. 

The event was hosted by the Cámara de Comercio, Industria y Servicios de Madrid in collaboration with Puerto de Algeciras, with support from Andalucia Trade and the Spanish-ASEAN Business Association (ASEMPEA). 

PTIC-Madrid remains committed to supporting Philippine businesses and investors by promoting the Philippines as a competitive and dynamic player in global trade, fostering stronger economic ties with Spain and the broader European market.
