The Road Leveraging Linkages for Industry and Trade (ROLL IT) Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) composed of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R02, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) R02, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) R02 and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) convened on 20 February 2018 at the DTI – NERBAC Conference Room to review and check the completeness of supporting documents of road project proposals submitted for inclusion in FY 2019 Budget Proposal. The process is undertaken as required in the ROLL IT Guidelines before the projects are endorsed by the Regional Development Council (RDC).
The PCCI was represented by Dr. Samuel Garcia, President of PCCI-Cagayan Chapter and Mr. Cloyd Velasco, Governor of PCCI-Region 02.
The ROLL IT is a DTI-DPWH Convergence Program which started in 2017. Fourteen projects from Region 02 amounting to over 500 million were funded in the GAA 2018. To date, there are over 150 proposals already submitted from across Region 02 for inclusion in FY 2019 Budget Proposal.♦
The members of the Cagayan Valley Coffee Industry Council (CVCIC) convened on February 28, 2018 for its 1st Quarter Meeting held at the DTI-R02 NERBAC Conference Room, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 02 and the Department of Agriculture (DA) presided the 1st Quarter Meeting which was attended by a majority of its existing members and some potential entrants and covered a number of agenda such as the review of 2017 IC Performance, 2018 National and Regional Work Plans, the Philippine Coffee Conference, Philippine Quality Cupping Competition and data base build-up.
Most importantly, the meeting was highlighted with the initial discussion on the 2nd Regional Coffee Forum which will be held on April 28, 2018 in Ilagan City. The event will include plenary discussions and Product Launch for the 10 Aspiring Coffee Brands of the region.
Further, the council has already approved its organizational by-laws which shall govern policies on the operation, administration and membership to the council. ♦

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cagayan Provincial Office and the City Government of Tuguegarao through the Technology and Livelihood Development Office (TLDO) conducted another round of product development seminar with one-on-one consultation to 17 MSMEs of Tuguegarao City on February 6, 2018 at the TLDO Training Center, Mall of the Valley, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Aimed at refining and redefining the labels and products of the MSMEs, Mr. Cesar Crisostomo, owner of Ritepak Packaging Solutions and a successful entrepreneur, sat with them and discussed the gaps and needs of the products they need to address.
“Under the BuB projects of DTI and the City Government, we will provide a solution to the needs identified during the consultation,” said Mr. Mario Eugenio, TLDO Chief.
As an offshoot of the activity, 17 labels have been finalized. The initial cost of the printing shall be borne by the City Government under DTI-BuB 2016 fund.
“Before I joined this seminar, my gourmet tuyo business is not my top priority. I manage a coffee shop, and I also have other lines of business. But after my consultation with Sir Cesar (Crisostomo) and Maám Liza (Guzman) of DTI, I am now more interested in pursuing it. In fact, I also would like to be enrolled under the Kapatid Mentor ME to capacitate me in pursuing my business,” says Ms. Marmee Carag-Vela, owner of Z-Bros Native Food Products and one of the participants.
In addition to the printing of labels, the MSME-beneficiaries shall also be given packaging assistance under the DTI-BuB 2016 projects of Tuguegarao City.♦
The Department of Trade and Industry Region 02 joined the 1st Quarter Meeting of the Regional Development Council 02 held on February 15, 2018 at the Magat Eco-Tourism Park, Nueva Vizcaya to present updates on its two development programs which are both contributory to the region’s economy and competitiveness.
Governor Carlos Padilla, Chair of the RDC-02 presided the 1st Quarter Meeting which was attended by the member-agencies and private sector representatives.
Mr. Michael Paggabao and Ms. Zenaida M. Quinto, b111oth senior technical staff of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 02 presented the Updates on the Industry Clustering Program of the region and the 2017 CMCI Survey Results, respectively.
The presentations were well accepted by the council and appreciated the convergence among agencies in the development of regional priority industries. However, it was suggested that the convergence be further enhanced by defining clearly the roles of each agency to avoid duplication of interventions.
On the part of the 2017 CMCI Result, it was recommended that the LGUs come up with a Technical Working Group which will ensure the accuracy and completeness of information in the Data Capture Sheets and for the result to be presented before the League of Mayors. ♦

The Provincial Government of Cagayan (PGC), in tandem with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cagayan Provincial Office mounted a trade fair to support CAVRAA 2018 on February 23 – March 2, 2018 and Local Civil Registrars (LCR) National Convention on March 5-8, 2018.
Themed “Paddarafunan Anna Akkakanan Trade and Food Fair”, the fair runs from February 23 – March 8, 2018 in Mamba Gymnasium, Tuguegarao City, and is actively participated in by 85 food and non-food exhibitors from the different municipalities of Cagayan and Region 02.
The trade fair formally kicked-off through a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 23, 2018 spearheaded by Cagayan Governor Manuel N. Mamba and Atty. Maria Rosario S. Mamba-Villaflor, Chief of Staff of the Provincial Governor and Officer-in-Charge of Tourism Division of Provincial Tourism Office of Cagayan. It was also graced by Mr. Arnold A. Alonzo, Tourism and Museum Consultant and other dignitaries from different government agencies and private entities. Mr. Roberto A. Pancha, Trade and Industry Development Specialist, represented DTI during the launching ceremony.
With the influx of sports enthusiasts from all over the region during the CAVRAA 2018, and the succeeding conduct of the Local Civil Registrars National Convention in Tuguegarao City, the fair is expected to generate at least 3 Million Pesos in sales.♦
