In response to requests from DOH-owned medical facilities, the Department of Trade and Industry – Philippine Accreditation Bureau (DTI-PAB) conducted a two half-day online orientation on “ISO 15189:2022 Accreditation and PAB Services” on April 22-23, 2025. The webinar, attended by over 200 participants from various DOH medical facilities, aimed to equip laboratories with the knowledge to provide quality healthcare and comply with ISO 15189:2022 standards in preparation for accreditation.
Before the main presentation, Mr. Jenebert P. Opinion of DTI-PAB outlined the bureau’s mandate and services, highlighting the importance of accreditation in ensuring healthcare quality.
The webinar featured Ms. Marienella P. Galit, Supervising Science Research Specialist and Quality Manager at the National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory (RITM-DOH) and a PAB Technical Assessor for ISO 15189, as the resource speaker. As a practitioner in a DOH medical laboratory, she provided valuable insights into ISO principles, the revision history and structure of ISO 15189:2022, and the accreditation process.
Participants actively engaged in discussions on quality practices and risk identification. To facilitate clarity, the session encouraged real-time questions, directly addressing concerns related to ISO compliance, documentation, and access to standards. Knowledge checks after each major clause of ISO 15189:2022 reinforced key concepts and enhanced comprehension.
The two half-day webinar provided a comprehensive understanding of ISO 15189:2022, its principles, requirements, and compliance benefits. It also offered practical guidance on implementing the standard within medical laboratories, covering essential policies, procedures, and documentation. Additionally, the session fostered a culture of continuous improvement in laboratory operations, emphasizing quality patient services.
