The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA enforced a price freeze on basic necessities in Puerto Princesa City, Narra, Brooke’s Point, and Aborlan, Palawan, due to the devastation caused by the persistent shear line.

Given the declarations of the State of Calamity, the prices of basic necessities are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices, effective for the duration of the condition that brought about them, but not more than 60 days. The price freeze bulletin is also pursuant to Section 6 of RA 7581 or the Price Act as amended.

Basic necessities under DTI’s jurisdiction include canned fish and other marine products, processed milk (evaporated, condensed, and powdered milk), coffee, laundry/detergent soap, candles, bread (tasty and pandesal), iodized salt, instant noodles, and bottled water.

DTI would like to emphasize that individuals who violate these regulations will be subject to administrative penalties, which may include imprisonment for a duration of one to 10 years, or a fine ranging from Php5,000.00 to Php1,000,000.00. In addition to these legal consequences, DTI Palawan’s provincial monitoring and enforcement team shall intensify their efforts to monitor the pricing and availability of essential goods within the Department’s jurisdiction. This measure is taken to ensure that businesses and establishments comply with the imposed price freeze. ♦
