Aligned with the mandate of enhancing competitiveness, climate resilience, and green growth for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) received four international project grants to support agriculture-based enterprises in Oriental Mindoro.

In 2020, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) launched the multi-year project, “Climate Resilient and Inclusive Green Growth for Poor Rural Communities: Accelerating Implementation in the Agriculture Value Chain (2020-2024)”, which will be implemented in Oriental Mindoro.

According to the GGGI, this project aims to achieve the following: (1) Greater climate resilience of farmers, agribusiness, and vulnerable local communities achieved through the implementation of evidence-based climate policies in Oriental Mindoro; (2) Design, financing, and operationalization of micro-enterprises and a Provincial Agricultural Center (PAC) in Oriental Mindoro; and (3) Improved capacity of government and non-government stakeholders to implement climate resilient, inclusive, and green agriculture value chain projects in the same province.

Phase 1 of the full implementation of the project commenced in 2022 with the groundbreaking ceremonies of the facilities in Oriental Mindoro. The Provincial Agriculture Center in the municipality of Victoria formally began its construction phase on September 07, 2022. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Calamansi Processing Facility for the Pakyas Rural Improvement Club (PARIC) and Coconut Processing Facility for the Bigaan Agrarian Reform Cooperative (BARCO) in Victoria was held on October 12, 2022. Likewise, the Banana Processing Facility for the Malubay Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (MARBA) in Gloria and Seaweeds Processing Facility for the Samahang Manggagawa sa Balatasan (SAMASABALATASAN) in Bulalacao also started its construction the next day.
