The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA officially launched the Shared Service Facilities Project (SSF) for the Bogtong Fish Processor Association (BFPA) and turnover ceremony of the Common Service Facilities for the Bambuhay Handicrafts Association, in Busuanga, Palawan. The projects focus on the upgrading of fish processing for the BFPA and upgrading of bamboo handicraft production for the Bambuhay Handicrafts Association.
The projects are designed in the context of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly on SDG No.5 Gender Equality, No. 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, No.7 Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG No. 12 Responsible Consumption and Production.
The event took place on August 9, 2024, at Barangay Bogtong, Busuanga.
Attendees included DTI Regional Operations Group Assistant Secretary Grace Baluyan, DTI MIMAROPA Regional Director Rodolfo Mariposque, Busuanga Municipal Mayor Elizabeth Cervantes, TESDA MIMAROPA Regional Director Angelina Carreon, and representatives from the USAID Fish Right Program.
The fish processing facility for the BFPA included a blast freezer, vacuum packaging machine (for choice cuts), chest freezer – for storage, water treatment system, mini-ice plant, vacuum packaging machine (for large fish), shipper box with phase change material panels, workshop meat table (stainless working table with filleting knives), digital weighing scale with barcode printer, bone saw, food metal detector, and solar power system. This project is accordingly, the very first SSF project in the country to use renewable energy.
Moreover, with the fulfillment of the SSF guidelines for the successful operation of the common service facility, the Bambuhay Handicrafts Association Incorporated received a bamboo engraving machine for the upgrading of the said common service facility. The said equipment will be used by the Tagbanua women weavers to improve the production of bamboo bags, straw, lamp shade, mats, and lanterns, to name a few. ♦
