The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Isabela Provincial Office, in collaboration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – Isabela School of Arts and Trades (TESDA-ISAT), proudly launched a specialized automotive servicing training program on 23 July 2024, at the ISAT-TESDA Training Hall in Calamagui 2nd, City of Ilagan, Isabela. This initiative marks a significant milestone in enhancing the skills and knowledge of Service and Repair Enterprise (SRE) technicians in Isabela.

This initiative is a cornerstone of STIDS Ma’am Sofia I. Almonte’s internal breakthrough goal and a pivotal project led by DTI Isabela’s Consumer Protection Division. The training aims to elevate the capabilities of automotive engine technicians, ensuring they meet industry standards in maintenance, system servicing, and troubleshooting. Additionally, this effort will assist technicians in obtaining a National Certificate (NC), aligning their skills with industry requirements.

This certification is crucial for maintaining industry standards, improving service quality, and ensuring compliance with Presidential Decree 1572, also known as the “Accreditation Law.” This decree mandates that all enterprises and technical personnel be licensed or permitted to operate in the Philippines only after being accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry. Moreover, this training ensures that technicians possess a valid TESDA Certificate of Competency, a key requirement for SRE shop accreditation.

The training featured esteemed resource speakers, including Sir Edgar M. Laciste, Assistant Professor III, who provided an orientation on automotive servicing NC-1 leading to NC-2, and Mr. Rogie P. Singue, Instructor I, who discussed competency-based training and the training regulations of the assessment.

The event was graced by notable attendees: Mr. Edwin P. Madarang, Vocational School Superintendent II, had delivered an inspirational message; Mr. Ramil D. Garcia, DTI Isabela OIC-Provincial Director, had presented the opening message; Mr. Elmer A. Agorto, CPD Chief, meanwhile, provided an overview of the training; and Mr. Elmer A. Bartolome, Vocational Instruction Supervisor, delivered the opening remarks.

The first batch of candidates demonstrated competence during assessment, with additional batches scheduled for evaluation.

This initiative underscores the commitment of DTI and TESDA to elevate industry standards and ensure that service shops deliver top-quality services. By enhancing the capabilities of automotive technicians, the program not only boosts their professional growth but also fortifies consumer protection and adherence to fair trade laws.

DTI Isabela Provincial Office and TESDA-ISAT will continue to collaborate on similar initiatives, fostering a skilled and competent workforce that meets industry demands and regulatory requirements. This ongoing effort is crucial for the sustainable development of the automotive servicing sector in Isabela and beyond. ♦
