The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 and DTI Cagayan Provincial Offices, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) Camalaniugan, Cagayan, successfully staged the 2nd Run of the Mobile Product Standards Showcase cum Diskwento Caravan on 11 July 2024 at the Municipal Grounds in Camalaniugan, Cagayan.

The activity had two components: the Diskwento Caravan and Mobile Product Standards.

First, the Diskwento Caravan was part of the DTI’s efforts to bring school supplies to the community at discounted prices in time for the opening of classes this July. Other products such as basic necessities and prime commodities, including gadgets and appliances, were also offered for sale to complete the activity’s product offerings.

Second, a Mobile Product Standard Showcase, an interactive learning experience through actual products and photos of items under mandatory certification, was also staged during the activity. This initiative is part of DTI’s ongoing efforts to increase consumer awareness about the importance of identifying certified products to ensure safety and quality.

In his welcome message, Hon. Isidro T. Cabaddu, Municipal Mayor, said that the Municipality of Camalaniugan welcomes this worthwhile initiative of the DTI in the municipality. It enables the people of Camalaniugan, especially those living in far-flung areas, to purchase discounted school supplies just in time for the opening of classes. Moreover, the showcase component will help provide guidance and protection to its constituents in making sound choices in their purchases, especially with the proliferation of uncertified products in the market. Hon. Cabaddu also recalled that this was the 2nd time the DTI partnered with LGU Camalaniugan in this kind of activity, and he expressed his hope that this would not be the last.

In his opening message, Ma. Sofia G. Narag, DTI R2 Regional Director, represented by Atty. Cyrus I. Restauro, Consumer Protection Division Chief, expressed gratitude for the invaluable support of LGU Camalaniugan in hosting the DTI showcase in the municipality.
