The Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 continues to level up and increase the competitiveness of coconut-based products in the region through a three-day Intensive Product Development-Technology Course held at the CSU Sanchez Mira, Cagayan on 19-21 October 2022.

This activity focused on optimizing the potential of the raw materials by producing high-value and quality coconut products using coconut shell and coconut coir/fiber, and on improving the packaging and labeling of coconut-based food products. This is also in preparation for the upcoming Padday na Lima-RTIF, which is set to kick off on November 25 this year at the Robinsons Place Tuguegarao.

Twelve coconut growers and producers underwent skills training on making new products out of coco coir and coco peat (planters, carpets, rugs, peat blocks, mattresses, brushes), with a total of 24 new product designs which are now under execution as a result of the sessions.

Mr. Paul Henry Abad served as the activity’s design consultant. Also present during the sessions were DTI Cagayan Provincial Director Henry O. Conel Jr., Dr. Rodel Francisco T. Alegado, Campus Executive Officer of CSU – Sanchez Mira, Mr. Howard Transfiguracion, DTI-TIDS Ren Mark Marcelo, DTI-Technical Assistants Mr. John Edward Iringan and Mr. Alvin Jay Barcena.

Meanwhile, a Costing and Pricing Workshop will also be conducted to guide and educate participants on how to effectively come up with the right cost and price of their products. #
