The Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 (DTI R2), represented by Ms. Manilyn C. Ponce, Regional Focal Person for Coconut, and Ms. Jayle Pauline P. Damasco, Regional Alternate Focal Person for Coconut, participated in the recently conducted National High Value Coco Products (HVCP) Industry Cluster CY 2023 Planning Workshop in Butuan City cum Benchmarking Visit to the Amparitas Integrated Nature Farm on 11-12 October 2022.

On the first day, participants from 11 regions from all over the country attended the planning workshop at the Grand Palace Hotel and Restaurant in Butuan City and were welcomed by RD Gay A. Tidalgo of DTI Region 8. The program was opened and its overview was provided by NICC for HVCP and DTI Caraga RD Celerina T. Bato.

DTI-Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona inspired the participants and set a deadline for the expected output of the activity, 10 days after its commencement.

Each region prepared and presented their bottomline and highlights of accomplishment reports for CY 2021 and regional targets and accomplishments from January-September 2022. For DTI R2, all performance indicators are expected to be met by the end of the year.

The industry’s goals, targets, and strategic programs and projects were presented by NIC Asst. Coordinator for HVCP and DTI Samar PD Meilou C. Macabare, who also facilitated the setting of 2023 regional targets.

DTI-8 CTIDS Atty. Fidelis T. Aviñon discussed the preparation of the NIC HVCP 2023 Work and Financial Plan and Next Steps and Ways Forward.

On the second day, the teams headed to Amparitas Integrated Nature Farm in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, a TESDA- and ATI-accredited and award-winning farm school, where its owner and proprietor, Engr. Ramon Barbosa, discussed the “84 pesos per nut” potential income of coconut and thoroughly specified how value-adding and product diversification lead the farm to success. He said that he is very much willing to transfer the technology to other aspiring farmers to generally contribute to the socio-economic success of not only their locality but the entire nation.

The tour also included a visit to the Amparitas Food Manufacturing Center, Souvenir Shop, and the Coco Coir Weaving Center. #
