San Rafael, Bulacan—Ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) inspected fireworks manufacturing factories on January 24. The monitoring activity aimed at ensuring compliance of producers with the product quality and safety standards set by the DTI.
Led by DTI Chief of Staff and Assistant Secretary Englebert Josef Chua and DTI-Fair Trade Group Assistant Secretary Agaton Teodoro Uvero, the monitoring team visited two major fireworks factories, Dragon Fireworks Inc. and Leegendary Fireworks Inc. The inspections found both companies in full compliance with the mandatory requirements and certification schemes. The enforcement team was also joined by DTI-Bureau of Philippine Standards Director Neil Catajay and DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau Director Gino Mallari.

Fireworks are among the 109 products that are subject to DTI-BPS’ mandatory certification. A Philippine Standard license is granted to fireworks manufacturers that have successfully passed the DTI certification process, indicating high levels of safety and quality. On the other hand, uncertified items may pose significant risks, including injuries and property damage.
The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body, mandated to develop, disseminate, and implement the set standards for all products sold in the country. The bureau also ensures the production and distribution of quality goods to guarantee consumer protection.
