Santa Rosa City, Laguna — The 1st Quarter Market Administrators’ Meeting organized by the Local Economic Development Investment and Promotion Office (LEDIPO) headed by Ms. Fatima Eleanor Villasenor of the Provincial Government of Laguna was attended by 18 city and municipal market administrators.

Hosted by the City Government of Santa Rosa, Mayor Arlene Arcillas in a recorded video message appreciated and thanked the assembly for continuously supporting the objectives of public markets in being the one-stop shop of the masses for basic commodities and essentials.

Laguna Trade and Industry Provincial Director Christian Ted Tungohan likewise extended the Department of Trade and Industry’s gratitude relative to the recent Timbangan ng Bayan Survey and most importantly the challenging rice assistance payout and compliance monitoring under EO 39 conducted in 2023. Post presentation of the Salient Features of Republic Act No. 7581, he accommodated questions and inquiries relative to the Price Act on online sellers not disclosing the price but requiring pm or private messaging for interested buyers, also known as “PM is the key”. He also discussed other key points relative to other implementing agencies such as that the Department of Agriculture has regulatory jurisdiction over basic commodities and agricultural produce, i.e., rice, meat, and vegetables. Also included in the discussion was the existence of Price Billboards in public markets and how relative it is to the function of the Local Price Coordinating Council. Director Tungohan also emphasized that billboards help in the guidance of consumers as to ideal prices in specific areas and further extended support in the areas of training and access to finance for market vendors through the facilitation of Negosyo Centers that are present in most cities and municipalities province wide.

The brief meeting was wrapped up by the OIC Market Administrator of Santa Rosa Rosa Mr. Manuel Garcia by highlighting people promotion as his office’s best practice that he shared for possible emulation (TFTawingan, DTI-Laguna). ♦
