Rizal, Philippines—Underscoring their shared commitment to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with SM Prime Holdings, officially rolled out its Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Training Workshop in San Mateo. This initiative is a part of their 2024 memorandum of understanding.

SM City San Mateo served as the pilot venue for this program on April 22, gathering 20 participating tenants eager to strengthen their businesses’ resilience. Assistant Mall Manager Sigfred Tatom welcomed the participants, establishing an encouraging and productive training session for the day.

The activity commenced with an insightful overview of San Mateo’s disaster preparedness strategies, delivered by Mr. Stephen Flores, Deputy Chief of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Subsequently, Ms. Joanna Caldito, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist from DTI Rizal, spearheaded the main BCP workshop. She was assisted by DTI business counselors who facilitated hands-on exercises.

Throughout the training, participants received detailed, step-by-step guidance in creating personalized business continuity and recovery plans. This process provided them with tools to ensure their business can withstand potential disruptions and recover swiftly.

The BCP Workshop series is just in its first phase. The program will also be conducted at SM City Masinag, SM Center Angono, and SM Center Antipolo Downtown, further extending this essential support to more MSMEs across Rizal. ♦
