SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 6 was one of the national government agencies present in delivering various government assistance to families affected by Tropical Storm Paeng led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on November 8 in the Province of Antique.

During the president’s visit, DTI OIC-RD Ermelinda Pollentes presented the situational report on the effects of Typhoon Paeng and the actions taken by DTI Region 6 along with selected regional line agency directors and local chief executives of Antique.

According to OIC-RD Pollentes, Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) meetings both in the provincial and municipal levels in Region 6 were held to discuss the price and supply situation of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs).

She added that DTI Region 6 facilitated the publication of a press release on the price freeze in all six provinces on the local newspaper a day prior to PBBM’s visit.

Six micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) from the municipalities of San Jose and Culasi received vouchers for livelihood packages from DTI as part of the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa Program.

A navy ship (BRP Tausug) and a barge (MV Felipe-FF Cruz) carrying over 100 tons of basic necessities and selected items arrived in the Province of Antique on Nov. 7 to ensure adequate supply of basic necessities in the province.

Among the items transported by BRP Tausug were 200 boxes of noodles and  2,700 boxes of noodles and biscuits while MV Felipe-FF Cruz carried 60 tons of assorted basic grocery items, 30 tons of bakery supplies, 200 tanks of LPG, 30 tons of fertilizer and 500 bags of poultry supplies.

Retailers were contacted by DTI to avail of the free shipment through BRP Tausug to deliver additional supplies to Antique this week.

Meanwhile, some retailers hired haulers to transport their merchandise through Oyungan Bridge in Miag-ao.

Region 6 is declared under state of calamity along with three other regions  pursuant to President’s Proclamation No. 84 to speed up the rescue, recovery, relief, and rehabilitation efforts of the government and private sector and effectively control the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities.
