COMPOSTELA, CEBU – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu Provincial Office, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Compostela, officially launched a new Negosyo Center on August 30, 2024. Located in the municipal hall, this center marks the 36th Negosyo Center in Cebu Province, further extending DTI’s support to local enterprises in a municipality recognized for its expanding business landscape.
The Negosyo Center Program, established under Republic Act No. 10644, also known as the “Go Negosyo Act,” is designed to create a more conducive business environment for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The program offers vital services aimed at empowering MSMEs, fostering job creation, and driving inclusive economic growth across the country.
Negosyo Centers provide a wide array of services tailored to support MSMEs, including Business Registration Assistance, Business Advisory Services, Business Information and Advocacy, MSME Development Seminars, Access to Market initiatives, Financing Facilitation, and various programs to enhance the competitiveness of small enterprises.
During the launch, Compostela Mayor Felijur Quiño expressed his appreciation to DTI for its continued efforts to strengthen local entrepreneurship. He highlighted that the Negosyo Center in Compostela is a pivotal step in his administration’s commitment to streamlining business processes and nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit within the community.
In her remarks, DTI-Cebu Provincial Director Rose Mae Quiñanola emphasized the importance of the Negosyo Center in uplifting local MSMEs, which constitute 99.6% of businesses nationwide. She assured the LGU of DTI’s unwavering support in initiatives aimed at improving the Ease of Doing Business in Compostela. Director Quiñanola also expressed optimism that this partnership, along with collaboration from other agencies, would play a crucial role in Compostela’s development, potentially paving the way for its elevation from a first-class municipality to a future component city.
The event included the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DTI, represented by Director Quiñanola, and the LGU of Compostela, represented by Mayor Quiño. This was followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Director Quiñanola, Mayor Quiño, and Vice Mayor Froilan Quiño, officially opening the Negosyo Center.
Compostela hosts over 1,200 registered establishments and key investors, including the industrial factories of Norkis Trading Co. Inc. (Yamaha plant), Virginia Food, Inc., Steel Asia’s Compostela Works, ready-mix concrete supplier Suprea Philippines Development Corporation, and home furnishings and garden accessories exporter Natures Legacy Eximport, Inc.
