Tacloban City, Philippines—Sixty-nine women entrepreneurs, assisted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), will gather to present their best local products from across the provinces of Eastern Visayas at the BAHANDI Women’s Trade Fair. The event will be held from March 28 to 31 at the 2F Activity Area, Robinsons North Tacloban.
Through the Women’s Trade Fair conducted by the Department in 2021, 2022, and 2023, women-owned, led, and dominated enterprises generated an accumulated sale of PHP 8,366.177.00. This significant revenue has contributed to sustaining and expanding their businesses.
Building on the upward trend of previous years, the women producer-exhibitors are challenged this year to meet and potentially exceed the target sales of PHP 2.5 million.
This trade fair provides a valuable platform for these entrepreneurs to showcase their locally-honed products, thereby leveraging their craftsmanship and promoting women economic empowerment.
Attendees can expect to find local pride, including tikog bags, nito crafts, shell and resin-based handicrafts, coconut and pili products, leather items, powdered teas and drinks, tablea, suman and chocolate moron, keseo, dried fish and root crop chips. These products will be available for purchase throughout the four-day fair during mall hours.
The National Women’s Month theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas,” embodies a sense of optimism and hope, symbolizing a future where women’s lives are truly uplifted. The DTI Region 8 aligns its initiatives with this theme, having assisted 92,206 women as of December 2024. The positive impact of the Department’s inclusive programs is evident in the testimonies of women who have experienced improved living conditions, economic independence, and the creation of job opportunities through entrepreneurship. ♦
