In support to the Filipino Elderly Month, DTI-CAR joins the national program on Senior Citizens Officer for a Day by honoring retired educator Basilio Pungayao Sr. as the designated SCOFAD and regional agency head of the trade office. He is shown in photo giving a pep-talk during the Oct. 1 Monday flag ceremony at DTI-CAR office and he recalls being part of the government sector on trade as he was a former researcher of National Cottage Industry Development Authority or NACIDA.

DTI-CAR and the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) conducts an awareness write-shop on food safety as a documentary requirement of the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in order for SMEs to be issued with a License to Operate (LTO). Engr. Menandro Ortego (left) of FDA-LTO discusses basic food safety and basic food processing technologies to participants from CAR who are mostly engaged in food processing and manufacturing. Participants from the CAR provinces also learned labeling requirements by FDA.

Coffee growers and processors from the region are being trained by experts to be able to comply and meet the quality demands of the specialty coffee industry not only locally but internationally. DTI-CAR tapped lecturers Prof. Valentino Macanes of Benguet State University, Teresa Plotkin and Billy Ignacio of Barista & Coffee Academy of Asia and who coached the participants on how to identify defects and distinguish coffee beans from various elements like aroma, flavor, acidity, body, sweetness and aftertaste.
