“Kailangan may focus ka, kasi kapag may focus ka dun ka tututok at tapos mapagbubuti mo siya at mapag-aaralan” said by Ms. Dayrelyn Cruz, Owner of Egg Pie ni Diday, showcases her determination, persistence, and hardwork to her career.

She was born and raised in Pasay City, Metro Manila, and is a degree holder in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Management. She initially ventured into the world of real estate, working alongside her husband since 2008. She later moved to the lively communities of Bacoor and Imus in Cavite, where she would sow the seeds of her future success.

Ms. Dayrelyn has always loved cooking and has a keen interest in baking. Her culinary journey began with watching cooking tutorials on YouTube, where she honed her skills and experimented with various recipes. Also, she studied NC II Bread and Pastries in the TESDA Bacoor Livelihood Program to learn adequate baking knowledge. The turning point came during the challenging year of 2020 when the world faced the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Her family encountered a financial crisis, and she needed to find another way to increase their income. She thought of doing her own business baking egg pies, and the business counselor of DTI Negosyo Center Bacoor helped her by registering her business name as “Diday’s Egg Pie Food House.”

It began when she shared a Facebook post photo of an egg pie, and then her boss asked her, “Is that delicious?” She replied, “Sir, I will bake my egg pie and let you taste it.” The positive response was overwhelming, and her colleagues began requesting orders. The demand spread to her husband’s co-workers and her friends. She started to create an FB Page of Egg Pie ni Diday, where she began to sell online and took inquiries. She delivered it herself using the rusty bicycle her neighbor gave her during the Pandemic Lockdown days.

The venture quickly gained attraction, thanks to the irresistible appeal of “Egg Pie Ni Diday,” Ms. Dayrelyn’s dedication to her baking extended to her family, with her two sons actively participating in the business, lending their hands to perfect the dough for the delectable egg pies.

In 2021, she boldly registered her business with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Trece Martires Provincial Office, upgrading the territorial scope from Barangay to Regional and securing other necessary permits. Also, in the same year, with the unwavering support of her family, especially her mother, they built a physical store that bore the name “Egg Pie ni Diday – It’s not all about Egg Pie.”

In the year 2022, to improve the packaging and branding of her enterprise, Ms. Dayrelyn joined the One Town One Product Next Generation (OTOP NG). Recognizing the immense value of this opportunity, she wholeheartedly embraced it, participating in the program’s workshops on product development and improvement. The OTOP NG helped her improve the packaging of the boxes and design, as well as the innovation of marketability, production capability, and the brand development of her business.

The store became a haven for food enthusiasts seeking more than just egg pies. Ms. Dayrelyn expanded her offerings to include a diverse array of Filipino favorites, such as tapsilog, pancit, chicken wings, and an assortment of refreshing beverages like halo-halo and gulaman. The sizzling dishes added a delightful savory to the menu, creating a complete dining experience.

In 2023, Ms. Dayrelyn received a message from the Business Counselor of DTI Negosyo Center Bacoor inviting her to join the DTI KMME-MME Program. She enrolled in the said program, where she continues expanding her knowledge of business management, employee handling, customer service, cost reduction, etc. She is immensely grateful to the DTI for opening countless opportunities for her business and fueling her dreams. She also joined the Trade Fair in Bacoor City Hall to showcase her delicious Egg Pie to locals. “Mahirap pero masaya pa din ako nagpapatuloy at pag-asa ko po ang awa ng Diyos… that I can do this with all my heart literal na it’s a happy egg pie day.” Ms. Dayrelyn’s journey from a real estate agent to the proud owner of Egg Pie Ni Diday was a testament to the transformative power of passion, resilience, and loving family support. Her story inspired the community, proving that dreams can flourish even in the face of adversity. ♦
