Poised to sustain and increase the growth momentum, stakeholders of the export industry will virtually gather again in a series of activities to share and discuss ways forward from this pandemic.

Under the theme “A.R.I.S.E. Exports: Accelerate Rebuilding, Innovation, Support and Empowerment of Philippine Exports”, the National Exporters Week (NEW) will feature a series of webinars with thematic and sectoral discussions on global trends, export empowerment and recovery through innovation, digital transformation and new technology.

The theme emphasizes the need to fast-track export industry recovery to accelerate economic rebuilding, innovation through digital transformation and technologies upgrade and empowerment of exporters towards long-term global competitiveness.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary for Trade Promotions Group (TPG) Abdulgani M. Macatoman expressed strong support for the export sector and confidence in the Philippines’ economic recovery.

“The Philippines ranked 51st out of 132 economies in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021 report and the Philippines continues to include innovation in its national priority,” he said. “With these innovations, enhanced capacity of the exporters and MSMEs to access international markets, befitting policies to spur business growth and expansion, and collaboration among various public and private stakeholders, accelerated economic recovery is anticipated.”

Speaking for the private sector, Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr., president of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT), noted that the gradual re-opening of economies as more people are vaccinated should serve as a major impetus to growth.

“There are issues that need to be addressed, especially on logistics”, noted Ortiz-Luis. “But I am confident that with government and private sector working together, we can fasttrack recovery and reach our targets”.

This annual celebration, set from December 1 to 6, culminates to the National Export Congress (NEC) on December 7 with panel discussions and recommendations from government and private sector stakeholders.

The NEW and NEC are organized by the DTI, Export Development Council (EDC), and PHILEXPORT.
