The Department of Trade and Industry – Strategic Trade Management Office (DTI-STMO) conducted an STM Awareness Forum (STMAF) for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and its major services last 13 November 2023 at the Philippine Army Officer’s Clubhouse, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Col. Jesus Jeffrey F. Grapa emphasized in his opening remarks the importance of the STMO in ensuring local and international security and hoped for a fruitful collaboration between the DTI-STMO and AFP in advancing this common goal.

Ms. Domina Pia S. Salazar, Officer-in-Charge of the STMO-Registration and Authorization Division (RAD), expressed her gratitude to the AFP for hosting the event and noted that the Department of National Defense (DND) recommended the agency’s membership to the Subcommittee on Technical Reachback (SCTR) as AFP’s technical capabilities and expertise in dealing with conventional arms and other military end-use materials would make great contributions in implementing the STMA.

The discussion started with the introduction to the Philippine Army CBRN’s mandate, mission, structure, roles, and functional commands and how it plays a critical role in maintaining national security and safeguarding its citizens presented by Maj. Leonora Linga.

On the other hand, Mr. Dennis Gabriel A. Manimbo of the STMO-Policy and Enterprise Relations Division (PERD) provided an overview of the STMA and implementation updates followed by the presentation of the SCTR overview and updates by Engr. Vida Flor G. Magbual of the STMO-RAD, and the discussion on the Subcommittee on Enforcement (SCE) by Mr. Archie John T. Talaue of the STMO-Investigation and Compliance Division (ICD).

The awareness forum provided an opportunity for the AFP and DTI-STMO to strengthen collective efforts for stronger partnerships and promote the security of the country by ensuring the prevention of the proliferation of WMDs and the provision of its related services through the establishment of stronger interagency cooperation.
