The Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Jakarta (PTIC-Jakarta), in coordination with the Philippine Office of Agriculture Attaché based in Bangkok, reported the successful resumption of trade in shallots between the Philippines and Indonesia after years of discussion.
On 8 June 2022, Indonesian Minister of Agriculture issued an import permit valid for six (6) months to CV Barokah Agri Indo for 300 metric tons of shallots from the Philippines. As of 8 July 2022, Sparkle Corporation, a Philippine exporter, has already shipped a total of 130 metric tons of the commodity to Indonesia.
Indonesia remains to be one of the Philippines’ major trading partners ranking 8th in 2021. This development signals opportunity for Philippine exporters to cater to the strong demand for shallots in Indonesia. ♦
