The Philippines’ total merchandise trade for January-December 2018 amounted to US$176.42 billion, an increase of 7.0% from US$164.81 billion recorded in January-December 2017.  Total exports declined by 1.78% to US$67.49 billion in January-December 2018 from US$68.71 billion in the same period last year.  On the other hand, total imports increased by 13.4% from US$96.09 billion in January-December 2017 to US$108.93 billion in January-December 2018.  The country’s balance of trade in goods registered US$41.44 billion deficit in January-December 2018 higher than the US$27.38 billion deficit during the same period in 2017.
