A festive opening for the BAGSAKAN at Glorietta, led by (L-R): Usec. Abdulgani Macatoman of the DTI-Trade Promotions Group; Dir. Marievic Bonoan of the DTI-Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion; and Sky Gavin, WhenInManila chief operations officer and social media influencer.

The DTI-Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion, in coordination with the DTI Regional Operations Group is holding a BAGSAKAN event at the Glorietta Activity Center at Ayala Center, Makati. This five-day selling event runs from 26-30 November 2021, during mall hours.

In his inspirational message during the formal opening, Usec. Abdulgani M. Macatoman of the Trade Promotions Group noted, “Among those who were hardest hit were our Filipino entrepreneurs, particularly the MSMEs, who relied on a vibrant domestic marketplace. On the part of the DTI, we had to quickly find ways to help our micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sustain their business operations by providing them with continued market presence, through events like this BAGSAKAN project.”

Forty exhibitors are participating at the BAGSAKAN in Glorietta, showcasing products like processed food and beverages, fresh produce and organic products, dried seafood, cooked food, condiments, other cooking ingredients, as well as garments, footwear, fashion accessories, home decor, and other gift items.

This is the 33rd BAGSAKAN for the year, which so far has generated over P10-M in revenues for 92 participating MSMEs from all over the country. The BAGSAKAN Special Project was conceptualized as a crisis response to assist MSMEs, local farmers, fruit growers, and cooperatives to sell their fresh produce and food products in spite of the lockdowns and travel restrictions. It introduced innovations such as direct selling of MSMEs to buyers and consumers. This was a win-win solution as MSMEs were able to generate instant revenues from direct payments for their goods, while buyers and consumers were able to enjoy lower prices and have access to food products.

DTI-BDTP Director Marievic Bonoan invited the public to support the ongoing BAGSAKAN event, saying: “We consider our MSMEs as present- day heroes who have helped keep our national economy going for more than 20 months now. In the spirit of Bayanihan, we encourage consumers to support local MSMEs, and invite everyone to #EatLocal, #BuyLocal, and #GoLokal.”

To take advantage of the easing up of restrictions to reinvigorate the economy, more BAGSAKAN events are scheduled before the year-end.
