The Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) adopts the International Standard of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use as a Philippine National Standard (PNS).

The PNS ISO 45001:2018 specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, and gives guidance for its use, to enable organizations to provide safe and healthy workplaces by preventing work-related injury and ill health, as well as by proactively improving its OH&S performance.

It is important for the organization to eliminate hazards and minimize OH&S risks by taking effective preventive and protective measures.

DTI-BPS Director James E. Empeño underscores, “Thousands of lives are lost due to work accidents or fatal diseases linked to work activities. With PNS ISO 45001, such incidents can be prevented.”

“This procedure of adopting International Standard as PNS is in compliance with the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (WTO-TBT) Agreement on the obligation of the PH, as a WTO member, to harmonize national standards with International Standards”, Director Empeño added.

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the Philippines’ member to the International Standardization Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
