As part of the Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) celebration activities, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted the Consumer Digital Artwork Contest that was aligned to the celebration theme, “Sustainable Consumerism in the Digital Age”.

The DTI Consumer Protection Group’s (CPG) Consumer Policy and Advocacy Bureau (CPAB) aimed to heighten the level of consumer awareness through the conduct of the said contest.

The CPAB received a total of 47 creative entries from seven (7) regions. A screening of the entries was conducted based on the contest mechanics.

The judging of entries was conducted virtually on 19 October 2022. CPG’s Information and Communications Head, and Bureau of Philippine Standards Assistant Director Ferdinand L. Manfoste (top left) opened the activity and thanked the 47 contestants, the judges, and the organizer, CPAB.

“Each contributed for the contest to be more interesting and important as each expressed a genuine desire to deliver a meaningful change and drive towards sustainable consumerism”, Assistant Director Manfoste emphasizes.

Among the judges were Commissioner-at-Large and Chairperson Assistant Secretary Robert Raphael A. Fanlo of the Committee on Economic Empowerment National Youth Commission (NYC) (bottom right), Deputy Executive Director Lucky Lopez of the Design Center of the Philippines (DCP) (top right), and Senior Trade and Industry Specialist Ms. Airiz Casta of the DTI-Knowledge Management and Information Service (KMIS) (bottom left).

After the judges’ deliberation, the finalists were ranked from 10th to 1st place. The CPAB also gave special awards based on the online votes and based on the judges’ ranking.

Mr. Airon Sire Adan from Region 4B was awarded as 1st placer, Mr. Jodiley Batoctoy from Region 11 as the 2nd placer, Mr. Zaldy Salas from the National Capital Region (NCR) as 3rd placer, Ms. Queenie Joy Batiancila from Region 12, and Mr. Joseph Parages from Region 11, as 4th and 5th placer, respectively.

Those ranked from 6th to 10th places were Ms. Mary Gayle Comia from Region 4A, Ms. Jahasiel Dela Peña from CARAGA, Mr. Nollan Jay Galicia from Region 11, Mr. Prince Edrow Dela Cruz from NCR, and Mr. Kudip Aquitania from Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), respectively.

The winners for the special awards include Ms. Mary Gayle Comia from Region 4A for the Creative Award, Ms. Queenie Joy Batiancila from Region 12 for Theme Award, and Ms. Rhizza Mae Bautista from Region 4A for Consumer’s Choice Award.

The 1st placer shall receive P15,000 worth of gift certificates, P12,000 for the 2nd placer, P10,000 for the 3rd placer, P8,000 and P6,000 for the 4th and 5th placer, respectively. 6th to 10th placers shall receive P2,000 worth of gift certificates each while the special awards shall receive P3,000 worth of gift certificates each.

CPG Undersecretary, Atty. Ruth B. Castelo, emphasizes, “The Filipino youth are our partners in consumer advocacy and we are starting them young in acquiring understanding on their rights and responsibilities as consumers, and in involving them in policies and programs, and in resolving concerns that the buying public encounter. They are Consumer Champions who help and take action on issues that consumers face daily”.

The winners of the Digital Artwork Contest were announced during the Konsyumer At Iba Pa (KATBP) Program last 22 October 2022 and posted in the DTI Consumer Care and Konsyumer Atbp social media pages.
