The Department of Trade and Industry – Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau (DTI-CPAB) will chair the upcoming 15th ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP) meeting tentatively this May 2017 at Vientiane, Lao PDR.

The ACCP serves as the focal point for the implementation and monitoring of regional arrangements and mechanisms to foster consumer protection in the ASEAN Economic Community.

It was established by the ASEAN Economic Ministers in 2007 and members are representatives of consumer protection agencies of the ASEAN Member States (AMS).

The member countries are Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The DTI contributes to the work programs of ACCP through:

  • Information sharing on local voluntary and official recalled/banned products, consumer protection developments, emerging consumer issues and challenges, and best practices on consumer protection
  • Establishment of cross-border redress mechanisms
  • Active participation in ASEAN workshops/for a on consumer protection
  • Coordination with ASEAN partner agencies/organizations
  • Implementation of ASEAN consumer protection mechanisms for the realization of the ASEAN Economic Community
