The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its Consumer Protection Group (CPG), joins the nationwide celebration of the 20th Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) this October 2017, with the theme “Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.”

DTI-CPG Undersecretary Atty. Teodoro C. Pascua points out, “This celebration is the best opportunity for the Department to widen its reach to consumers and to accentuate
the programs that will assist them in exercising their rights and be more participative on issues that will benefit them. For this year, the DTI joins the different government
agencies and private organizations, especially consumer organizations worldwide in increasing the awareness on the digital economy and addressing its impacts in the
consumers’ daily lives.”

To kick off the month-long celebration, the DTI-CPG bureaus — Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS), Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau (CPAB), and Fair Trade
Enforcement Bureau (FTEB) — have lined up various activities relative to this year’s CWM. These are as follows:

Moreover, the DTI assures the public that its Project Execution Team (ET) continuously monitors the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities, as well as, enforces
the standards of critical products, cracking down on establishments that provide incorrect PLTK — “Presyo (price), Label, Timbang (weight), at Kalidad (quality)”.

“The advent of technology has opened various channels that cater to consumers’ needs instantly. But consumers need to be responsible each time that they resort to these
channels in purchasing products and services. Thus, be wise, informed, and assertive consumers!” Undersecretary Atty. Pascua prompts.

The DTI’s CPAB spearheads the celebration of CWM this year.
