Sustaining the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through energy services and solutions in order to cope with the pandemic adversities, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through the Regional Operations Group (ROG), renewed its partnership with the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) during the virtual Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Ceremonial Signing last 26 August.

“This collaboration is therefore very timely as the support of the private sector like Meralco will help us in the government to strengthen and assist many of our MSMEs recover and rebuild their businesses,” said Trade Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona.

Looking forward to a stronger collaboration, Undersecretary Lantayona has recognized MERALCO’s support to DTI in bolstering small businesses since 2016 to 2019, particularly the company’s active participation in various fora to have a better understanding of MSMEs’ electricity requirements to efficiently serve the sector’s needs and the free power coaching sessions on energy efficiency for businesses and households.

Since the lockdowns started in March 2020, MERALCO has been committed to keeping the lights on for the customers and small businesses they serve.

“As we renew our partnership with DTI, we affirm our commitment to empowering MSMEs through energy services and solutions, Free Power Consult and ensuring new businesses are powered up when they need it. We are grateful to DTI for this opportunity given to us to collaborate and contribute to rebuilding our economy. Together, let us power a brighter tomorrow for MSMEs,” said Ferdie Geluz, MERALCO’s Chief Commercial Officer of Costumer Retail Services.

Lantayona urged MERALCO to continue the convergent support to MSME sector as they help gradually revive the economy disrupted by the prolonged community lockdowns.

“Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to foster the growth and development of our MSMEs,” ROG chief added.♦
