The BPS/TC 74 members conducted its meeting on 25 April 2018 in the BPS Conference Room, Trade and Industry Building, Makati City.

The DTI’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) reorganizes its Technical Committee on Electromagnetic Compatibility (TC 74) to develop Philippine National Standards on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

EMC is the ability of electronic and electrical systems or components to work correctly when they are close together. In practice this means that the electromagnetic disturbances from each item of equipment must be limited and also that each item must have an adequate level of immunity to the disturbances in its environment.

The BPS/TC 74 was reorganized to develop the Philippine National Standards (PNS) on generic immunity standards, description and classification of electromagnetic environments, installation measures, and, functional safety. The TC 74 takes note that without effective control of EMC, contamination can cause destruction on products and processes. The EMC ensures the reliability and safety of all types of systems wherever they are used and exposed to electromagnetic environments.

The meeting was attended by the BPS/TC 74 representatives from the academe (Mapua University, Holy Angel University, Technological Institute of the Philippines), government (Food and Drug Administration), industry (Rodhe & Schwarz Phil. Inc., Sharp Philippines, Maxtronix, Inc., Yu Eng Kao Electrical Supply), professional organizations (Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines Inc.), testing and research institutions (BPS Testing Center, DOST-ASTI, SGS Philippines, TUV Rheinland, OMNI Solid Services, Inc.), and consumer organization (Laban Konsyumer, Inc.).

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the Philippines’ member to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It develops, adopts, reviews, and promulgates the Philippine National Standards through technical committees that comprise representatives from the academe, government, consumer, testing institutions, and, industries.
